M7 MBA School chances With Unique background

I just found out about WSO and it's been a great resource so far. I have some questions about admission to the M7 MBA schools

Age 27 GPA: 3.75 Undergrad: Top 10 business school / Top 40 overall undergrad with degree in finance Attended and graduated US medical school and currently in a 3-year residency in internal medicine Co-author of 2 peer reviewed papers in biomedical research Will take GMAT soon

Long story short: I'm a doctor with an undergrad finance degree that's considering MBA. I definitely love what I do however I am also interested in the MBA background to move into healthcare consulting/hospital administration in the future.

1) What are my chances at M7 B-schools? 2) How about specifically Specifically Stanford/MIT (I have family in the area) 2) Do B-schools care more about your undergrad business school ranking or your overall undergrad university ranking? 2) What should be the minimum GMAT I should obtain first before applying with my background?

Why didn't you go for an MBA while you were in Med School? Did the program you were at offer an MD/MBA? Why now? What's the reason?

Stanford is a crapshoot no matter who you are but Wharton on down would give you better than average odds (assuming GMAT, recs, etc). You're not one of the people I'd immediately discourage from applying but I would warn you about red flags if your story doesn't make any sense. You're essentially telling these schools that after picking a really specialized, intense, expensive degree you want to go drop another 200K on a more generalist one in a completely separate field. How it ties together will be extremely important for your application.

To answer your questions...

1) odds are good depending on your app. Stanford's odds are bad for all but the most elite people 2)b-school gpa will tell them you can handle core curriculum but overall gpa more important. Undergrad ranking is also a factor but given you're a doctor with a well known undergrad your "prestige" bucket will be checked 3)Aim for 740-750 for the schools you want

If I had done an MBA during my med school, I would not have been 100% clear what I want and would had no work experience like I do now.

After practicing as a doctor I find that my true passion is in healthcare administration.

What are my chances?

If you really want to be an administrator, get a Masters of Health Policy. Your MPH will help you more, especially considering your an MD. I could bust on you more for being an internist, but that's mean.

If you want to be in Healthcare consulting, just go look for jobs in HC Consulting. There are numerous opportunities to find work in that area with your MD or, if you had it, a PhD.

I graduated undergrad and med school with no debt since they were both public state schools and I had some scholarship.

Is my current profile (assuming a 730+ GMAT) competitive for scholarships at the M7 B-schools? Which schools are historically most likely to give scholarships?
