Major Combo for Finance Career

I'm going to be a freshman this year, and I was struggling to pick what to major in. I'm pretty dead set on doing a double major/dual degree, however I'm not sure what are the best options for me.

I applied as a finance major, and my original plan was to do dual-degree with CS, as long as it allowed me to still graduate in 4 years. The other options I was mainly thinking about were: Econ + Math, Finance + Math, and Finance + Stats. The math major specifically, has even more options within itself, relevant ones including Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics-Statistics.

I have no concerns over GPA levels (arrogant, maybe), I'm only worried about finishing on time. I'm coming in with a ton of credits so it shouldn't be a problem, however CS might be a tight squeeze based on what other students have told me.

I'm not really interested in working in a career outside of business, which is why I'm having afterthoughts about my initial choice for a Finance + CS Dual-Degree, as I feel like CS may be a waste of time if I don't want to pursue a strictly CS career.

Just enjoy your 4 years. Work hard and get good grades. You may think business/finance is what you want to work in for the rest of your life, but I can assure you as someone who thought the same it’s not all it’s cut out to be. So if you are double majoring (I did), pick something that gives you some diversity of options. From your list, that would be CS/Math, maybe stats. For my money, I’d pick CS because every company is looking for someone with base levels of knowledge there. Even if you don’t want to be a software engineer, you can leverage that degree into many other tech related positions, many having much better cultures and WLB than you’ll find in finance.

Given you interest in math/stats you may want to look at options your school has in data science.  Like computer science it can be leveraged across industries if you determine you want to do something outside of finance at a future date.
