Masters or MBA? Which school should I target?
I have recently completed my undergraduate degree (MA Accounts & Finance Honours) from Heriot Watt University, and directly went into doing my Masters in Financial Economics. I want to do either an MSc Finance or MBA finance from one of the top ranked schools, but I do not have the relevant information on what would make me stand out from the competition?
I have another year left at my Masters, and since I'm still a fresher, I want to get relevant experience in PE/M&A/IB/Financial Analyst, and proceed towards the top schools for Masters or MBA.
Could you please suggest what areas should I work on myself for the next 2 or 3 years, and which schools should I target in order to get further into IB and PE?
In general, doing your masters as a 'regular' MSc is the better option to start. MBA is more appropriate when you have some level of working experience in your pocket. And if you aim for a nice PE firm, they might sponsor you to get one.
Imo, just stick with the MSc and try to get good grades. Can't really help out with the specifics in the US, given I'm EU.
Thank you for your guidance sir. In the end, you would recommend that I wait and work for 2-3 years and then continue to pursue an MBA Finance rather than a MSc?
Also, what would you think you would expect from a student like me to get through to the top M7 Schools for an MBA finance?
Yes, continue with the MSc and just start working afterwards imo. I'm not sure what you mean by the second paragraph.
