Math Heavy Minor vs Better GPA
How much do employers really value a minor in math or a math-heavy discipline?
I'm transferring to a non-target to study Economics and I've been considering a Math minor, but I'm not sure if that's the best move.
With no minor, I could take CFA Level 1 this December and Level 2 next June, around graduation. With the Math minor, the CFA would have to be put on hold, I'd have (at least) another 2 quarters in college (tens of thousands of dollars), and my GPA would certainly take a hit.
I was told today that it would be better to forget the minor and just focus on getting magna / summa cum laude.
What do you guys think? The goal is eventually an LO HF, but I figure I'll probably have to start in sell-side ER.
