MBA admissions leadership experience: how to gain after college

How can I build leadership experience and demonstrate leader potential after college?

When I apply to business school, I will certainly have competitive gmat score, GPA, recommendations, essays, and work experience.

My weakest point is demonstrated leadership experience.

With undergrad behind me, how can I build my leadership experience?

Is doing well as a leader in your job enough? Should I pursue opportunities within the company (i.e join internal company groups)?

Do business schools value community involvement/volunteering? If so, is this considered "leadership" experience?

Any help from others with a similar background or profile would be very appreciated.

1) Take leadership within your job by spearheading projects/being proactive to add value/etc. This is partially determined by being good enough at your job the first year or two at your career to be given the slack to do this or be given projects to lead 2) Get involved at the company - I've led philanthropic events through the firm I work at and I am on boards that help out with education/training event planning for new analysts as well as campus recruiting activities 3) Volunteer outside of work - lead events for non profits, champion some fundraising effort
