MBA Advice

HI all,

Just  looking at the following MBA programs that I think would make the most sense for my switching from Corp Fin to IB. Just for some background:

  • Graduated from a non-target.
  • Have 5 years of progressing corporate finance experience.
  • Based in the South( Charlotte/ Columbia area).

I am trying to pivot into Investment Banking, and am looking at UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest and or Michigan. Does anyone have any insight into these programs and pivoting into Investment Banking from these programs?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, all three schools you mentioned - UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, and Michigan - have strong MBA programs that could potentially help you pivot into Investment Banking.

UNC Chapel Hill, in particular, has been mentioned in several threads as a good choice for those interested in Investment Banking. It has a good business school and there's no lack of opportunity in Chapel Hill. However, you have to apply after your freshman year, which is something to consider.

Michigan also has a strong reputation and could provide you with many opportunities in Investment Banking.

Wake Forest is a well-regarded school, but there's less information available in the WSO threads about its specific strengths in Investment Banking.

Remember, the school is just one factor. Your motivation, networking skills, and how well you leverage the resources available at your school will also play a big role in your success.

Also, consider factors like the campus environment, Greek Life, etc. You should choose a school where you'll be happy, not just one that's good for your career.

Lastly, don't forget to check out the WSO Courses and WSO Academy. They offer resources like Investment Banking Interview Prep, Private Equity Interview Prep, and more that could be very helpful in your journey.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your decision!

Hey there!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, all three schools you mentioned - UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, and Michigan - have strong MBA programs that could potentially help you pivot into Investment Banking.

UNC Chapel Hill, in particular, has been mentioned in several WSO threads as a good school for a finance career in Investment Banking, consulting, investment management, etc. You would be able to study at least economics there, but ideally, you might want a Business Administration (B.A.) major with a concentration in finance.

However, it's important to note that while UNC has a good business school, you have to apply after your freshman year, which is a risk. It's also been suggested that you should choose a school that is well balanced and where you will be happy. Factors such as whether you want a traditional campus or a school with a lot of Greek Life could also influence your decision.

As for Wake Forest and Michigan, while they aren't specifically mentioned in the WSO threads, they are well-regarded schools and could offer good opportunities for you to pivot into Investment Banking.

Remember, it's not just about the school but also about your determination and drive. If you know you want to go into Investment Banking, you'll find opportunities no matter where you go.

Hope this helps, and best of luck with your decision!
