2nd Year Associate (MBA Hire) - Need advice

I’m a second-year associate at an investment bank. My performance reviews outside of the technical bucket have been stellar, but I’m struggling to get enough technical reps. I’ve been asking for more opportunities for about a year now, but they keep staffing me on projects that aren’t technical. The reasoning I’ve been given is that the clients know me too well on my current assignments, and they don’t want to pull me off those. The issue is, there are only so many hours in the day, and I’m not getting the technical experience I need to progress.

Is this something others are facing at their banks? Is it something I just need to overcome, or is it unfair to not receive adequate training when I’m being held to a higher standard in performance reviews? Not sure what to do here and would really appreciate any and all advice. I’ve done a few courses in my own time but my employer says I need to show them on the job more
