MBA from Georgetown McDonough vs USC Marshall?
Got scholarships at both schools. Total cost for each will be:
Georgetown - $90k
USC - $60k
My career goal is IB with eventual transition to PE/VC. I love both coasts but would prefer NYC post grad, but I could survive elsewhere. I grew up on the east coast and feel like USC will be great new experience, my only opportunity to live in LA, plus USC is slightly higher ranked across all lists. USC is also slightly cheaper. Is USC really a better school than Georgetown that its worth it to go to LA and risk not coming back to NYC? Could I get into NYC IB from USC? Any advice?
IB isn't the goal for most people at USC. When I was there, the people that were able to recruit NY, were from NY so they had a story. Generally speaking, there won't be a ton of Marshall MBA alum in NYC. USC grads don't really differentiate between grad students and undergrads though.
Also, in general. The PE/VC switch post-IB is difficult for people, harder for those going IB via the MBA switch. Nothing wrong with shooting for it but think of some backup plans too.
Did you do undergrad or grad at USC?
Is your point about IB not being the goal for most people at USC to say that IB recruiting there is weak?
Grad. Can't say in terms of strong/weak because I didn't do it. Just that not many tried.
Got it. Thank you
PE is extremely unlikely post MBA without banking experience pre-MBA. Both schools are possible to get into IB from, Georgetown probably has an edge from alum network standpoint.
I know. My main concern is getting into IB first and will worry about career progression after that.
