MBA Good for Economic Development Career?

Hi all,

I've recently been doing some thinking about my career and an area that I've gotten interested in as of late is economic development. I'm still really new to this field, so pardon how ignorant/naive I may sound, but I think I'd either want to work for a large NGO or even in a state/national department and helping come up with economic policy related to poverty/development of a region. I would also consider working for a think tank.

My question is if an MBA is a good masters program to go to in order to achieve this end or if there are programs more relevant to these goals? If an MBA isn't the answer, what programs/degrees are more likely to lead to this? I've heard of Masters in Public Policy programs, but are those any good compared to an MBA from a T15 school?
