MBA: Gtown(free) vs Darden

I'm an international student currently based in Europe looking to immigrate into the US. I'm not really interested in "Elite jobs" and have already gained IB experience in London and Cont. Europe. Just looking to get a chill job in the US.

Didn't properly apply yet but met the Gtown admission officer who told me straight up I would get a full ride if I apply early round (I'm a refugee and first gen) and just randomly gave me GMAT waiver.

Met the admission officer from Darden as well who told me that I would get admitted if I make at least a 550 in the GMAT (no one from my country has applied at Darden yet) but couldn't promise me scholarship yet.

So the question is if I should just go with a full ride at GTown vs paying the money for a T15 school. I don't think I can get into a T7 school (friends from London who did so have significantly better profiles than me)

Gtown with scholarship no question. Gtown will place you primarily into DC consulting / corpfin type stuff. Plenty Gtown people break into banking and consulting also when they really push for it.

UVA Darden is a better bet for MBB / IBD but as you said you don't care for that stuff.  The risk + loans associated with an international student and visa stuff makes the full scholarship at Gtown a no brainer

what you don't want is a bunch of USD loans from having attended Darden at sticker price and then not get some permanent residency. I don't know where you're from but I would not want to pay USD loan with the FX risk

Georgetown is a great school. Really good placement into both private and public sector jobs. You could get a great consulting, non profit, or NGO gig out of there. Being in DC is great for recruiting outside of the standard PE and IB path. Really solid international brand recognition, too. My mother is in diplomacy and works with many people who went to Georgetown.

Georgetown - no question. While Darden has a higher rank, Georgetown has a substantially stronger brand internationally. And it is a better university more generally. Also, Gtown alumni will help you regardless of MBA, undergrad, etc.

Go to Georgetown for free. You’ll meet many international students like yourself and have strong exits to general corporate jobs/NGOs/government/etc. And if you want to pivot back into high finance, that’s an option also.
