MBA Placement after 2-3 years in IBD and Microfinance in China

Can anyone comment on top b-school placement after this path:

Finish my 2 years BB IBD (starting this month) Possible 3rd year in HK or mainland China to try and improve my Chinese for business (skippable) A year or two in microfinance in rural China (personally rewarding and helpful for language)

Though not exactly high finance, would the microfinance work give me an edge in the m7 applicant pool? My UG story and analyst placement all revolve around trying to get my Chinese up enough to successfully bank in China.

Also, would an year in China teaching English instead of a second year in microfinance(allowing me more time to learn Chinese and study for GMAT) be looked at as a positive to recruiters (both MBA and IB) or as a distraction from finance?

Thanks

Teaching English in Asia is seen as the equivalent of a working vacation by b-school adcoms and many recruiters. Don't do it unless you're looking for a working vacation - otherwise stick with microfinance.

As for your chances, sure, you'd be competitive.

Even prestigious English teaching programs like Princeton-In-Asia? With it you can basically teach English part-time and take classes or get a tutor the rest of the time to roung out a full-time job. It obviously is not as demanding as finance work but it still carries a good name and reputation with it. Thoughts?

Agree with Alex, teaching English in Asia is considered "kind of work" while taking vacation or a good/easy source of income while partying in Asia. Unless you have had a chance to land a teaching job in a reputable U otherwise it's not worthy of putting on your C/V.

Microfinance in China is a much better idea than teaching english. I know people who do both here... and the guys/gals in microfinance are driven, intellectual and went to Princeton. The guys who teach english (while many are my friends and are cool) are very laid back, went to colorado college, party every night, etc... They are not going to HBS any time soon.
