MBA vs MSc Finance/Part-time vs distance

Hi all,

I just completed my PhD in a humanities field and am employed full-time at a university. However, I long ago decided that I don't want to be an academic and I am now weighing my options (again). I am considering whether an MBA or an MSc in Finance would be better for me. I am particularly interested in finance and thus think the former would be a better choice. I am not attracted to the IB and consulting jobs that many people on here are interested in. In fact, I would prefer working for a boutique firm specializing in emerging markets or something to the like rather than working for a major IB. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this? Would the MSc be the way to go?

Also, given my full-time work load, I would be unable to do a full-time program. I would need a part-time program or a distance learning program. Considering my ultimate goals, I am curious to know how a distance learning degree from a prestigious university in somewhere like the UK would weigh up against a part-time program from somewhere more humble. My inclination is that a part-time degree anywhere would likely look better than a distance degree from most places, but just figured to ask.

Thanks in advance.
