Mccombs or Stern for undergrad?

I’m not sure which school to choose. I want to combine business and technology and maybe even get into entrepreneurship. Ik stern has better placement and name, but Austin is blowing up rn and it might be the better place to be. I care abt social life too and I’ve heard nyu can be lonely at times. Either way, I’d be more than happy to hear from anyone that had advice!

I went to McCombs for an exchange program and completely recommend the experience. The campus and environment are amazing and the people is top. If you are dead set on finance and IB I would recommend Stern, but otherwise I would go for McCombs without doubt

As someone that went to UT and is in NYC, I am obviously a little biased here. UT>NYU everyday of the week. Simply put, if you get a good GPA at either of these schools and build up applicable internships, you will be able to recruit wherever you want. Socially it's clear to anyone that as a college aged person, Austin is the place to be. Not to mention UT is a much more classic college experience vs living basically homeless in NYC with college kid money.

Better placement, not only in IB but also consulting, tech, and other major industries. Placement is primarily in NYC too. Better brand name, stronger international recognition, and the student body is of a higher caliber

This take is definitely too narrow. I think its unanimously agreed that Stern places better than McCombs in NYC and in most industries. However, the main takeaway should be that while McCombs doesn't place as well relative to Stern in NYC, McCombs is definitely still a fantastic school with broad reach and name brand. Not sure anyone looking to recruit in NYC really cares about how well internationally the school is known. On relative terms comparing both schools solely on placement into firms, doesn't do either justice since I would bet they both place well overall.

OP even said it, they care about the social aspects of the school at least a little. When comparing the two schools socially, no one would claim NYU has a better social scene than UT. From what OP originally asked about, its not really that farfetched to recommend UT based on their criteria.

If OP instead wanted the most guaranteed die hard route to IB in NYC, then yeah sure NYU all day.

We need context! If you’re from Texas - no brainer. If you’re made of money and care about high finance exits - no brainer. If you’re fratty - no brainer. So what do you want? What’s your family background?

Congrats, two great options.

With you writing you "want to combine business and technology and maybe get into entrepreneurship" you really can't go wrong with either. Stern has concentrations in those areas and I'm assuming you can get computer science classes in UT.  Also assuming you don't want to be a programmer but want just enough tech to know what is going on. Having some experience in the Austin start-up scene I know there are alot of opportunities and NYC is similar.

Since social life is important you really can't go wrong with UT sporting events and downtown Austin, but Austin is in the middle of a huge state with Dallas/Houston 3-4 hours away by car and the gulf coast isn't great. NYU offers different experience in that you really don't have the same college sports/social scene but museums/speakers/conferences/pro sports that it is up to you to get out and find. 3-4 months of the year you'll trudge out in the cold weather and go find those things to do or grab a train and head to one of the other east coast cities.

Lastly, NYU does have a pretty extensive study away program with the option to study internationally many places. https://www.stern.nyu.edu/portal-partners/current-students/undergraduat…, I'm assuming UT has something like this also but not as extensive.

So are you looking for a big college experience that is localized in Austin or expand out and maybe stretch your comfort zone a bit in a larger Cosmopolitan city? If your someone that is really comfortable doing their academics and following the normal college flow then probably UT. If you want something different then maybe NYU.
