MFE Oxford chances

Hello there fellow monkeys,
I have gone through a lot of posts and opinions regarding my chances. I leave you my profile to weigh your opinions. Thank you all!

Industrial and electrical engineer. (# 1 university in Colombia)
GPA: 3.9 both of them.
Magna cum laude honors both of them.
3 yrs of work exp related to finance (risk management)
GMAT 710 (Q49 V36) AWA 5.0 - TOEFL 118.

My real concern is the gmat score. Some say is low given the average, but coming from a eng. background I do not know if they will pay extra attention to it.

KKS^ Funny guy. Did you fail statistics?

Nearly did at one point, but here I am today doing research on non-parametric bayesian techniques. Go figure.

Regardless, I am disgusted by sheer amount of "chance me" questions on this forum. The opinion of a non-target sophomore should have no bearing on your critical life decisions, much less the area experts who are collectively no better than dart throwing monkeys.

So what? If you do not like a thread, just ignore. Why not get yourself a star and start answering some questions? No one is making critical decisions based off of what they read in this forum. It is just nice to hear other peoples' opinions sometimes.

Oh right, they're just posting it for shits and giggles.

If you have nothing constructive to add to the conversation, shut the hell up and go get a mojito. Seriously, calm down.

Some people post "chances"-type questions to make sure they're not completely boned. They post to see what the community has to say about their qualifications. You can say "you have zero chance and here's why...." In that case, be as negative as you want, but add to the conversation. But if you're not adding value, go channel your self-hate elsewhere and stop being a bloody twat.

If it'll make your day, I'll chip in and get you an escort for the night.

His post is much better than yours. It is clear you know absolutely nothing about the program, nor masters programs in general. What on earth compelled you to tell them their chances are pretty good? Have you no sense of dignity or shame? Do you realize that your post is actually potentially harmful?

Straight from the website: "As guidance, we expect the average scores to be around the 90th percentile on the quantitative tests, around the 80th percentile for the verbal tests and a score of at least 5 on the analytical writing."

http://www.sbs.ox.ac.uk/degrees/mfe/Pages/Requirements.aspx A quantitative score of 49, if memory serves me correctly barely clears the 80th percentile, well below the suggested 90%. 36 On verbal also falls short of the 80% threshold. A score of 710 is significantly below the program's average of 731.

Are you kidding me? Most people in engineering would kill for that GPA.

@reform, thank you. I really see you get the point of my question... I do not need someone to tell me I have a good GPA...I've been through the application process and I know that they pay attention to your entire application and would not lay you down based on just one item (except maybe toefl where I think they have an extrict requirement)... anyways, the thing is I know Im below the gmat average for the program and I wanted to know if anyone here had the experience or knew something about chances with that gmat score.

In the end, as always, I'm trying to look at the bright side. 731 is an average, which means there are some above and some below. I dont know if 710 is significantly lower but it is lower.

Thanks again and I am hoping to get more opinions on this subject. btw: I hate taking standardized test. I am and awful test taker when it comes to memorize formulas and apply them in seconds. I like to think and analyze. It is not an excuse, but thats why i think i didnt do better on the quant part. And @reform V36 is 79% and Q49 is 86% i think.

You have an identifiable AND FIXABLE weakness. What's stopping you from studying your ass off over the next month and retaking the test? Or is there a deadline approaching?

Better yet, why not try the GRE instead? That's not to say that you won't get in with your current score, but why take the risk?

No one's going to be able to answer your question. The only reason I even posted was to point out the sheer idiocy of therealweinstein's posts.
