Michigan (Ross) vs Columbia (GS)

Hey WSOers, I'm stuck as to which school [Michigan (Preferred Admit-Ross) & Columbia (General Studies)] to attend for my undergrad (will be a freshman at both schools). I would love to do either prop trading/AM/VC in the future. Was just wondering if any kind soul could provide any input that would help with the decision making. Thanks in advance! :)

Well, if geography is important to you, I'd say neither of those schools are great options (I attended one of the 2 you mentioned) and I'd apply to something on the west coast such as UC Berk. That being said, it doesn't really seem like you know what you want to do - prop trading is extremely different than VC as I'm sure you know. Both schools will afford you opportunities to intern at those type of firms over the summer but with Columbia you can actually try them out during the school year.

Personally, both schools are great and I wouldn't make my decision on career related points as either of these schools will enable you to get the jobs you are looking for. Instead I'd think about what is important to you -- do you enjoy greek life, big 10 football, and having a social life or is the ivy league brand something you value more? Do you want to live in a city or in a college town?
