MSF: SMU vs Villanova vs Texas

Hello all,

I applied to a few MSF programs and till now I have accepted to a couple. I was wondering how does SMU MSF program hold up against Villanova's MSF or Texas's MSF. I am particularly interested in job opportunities than anything else. I could not find much information in forums about SMU but saw them ranked in the same tier as Villanova in the rankings in this website itself. I would love to get some idea about how the SMU program compares to Nova or similar programs. Thank you.

Dallas is a great city and if you want to work there or in Texas I would recommend it. That being said I think the Villanova program is better overall, primarily based off of historic placements and proximity to NYC.

FYI, I am an alumnus.

Thanks for the replies. @"TNA" I was planning to apply to Texas in a few days as I could not get to it before and now was wondering if there is a point applying there as I already have an offer from a reputed school in Texas. Also, I am international, and although I like the Chicago or NYC area (I have lived and worked there before) I don't really have any preferences to location. My preferences are just a global, multicultural, cosmopolitan city.

On a final note I edging towards Villanova as I have friends in the Philly area.

I mean I would throw a UT Austin app in if you want. I know they are slammed so it becomes a little risky with trying to wait for a response while you have admitted schools hitting you up to commit. If you can hold them off you might as well try for UT Austin. I do think UT Austin > SMU when it comes to brand in the state of Texas. Not taking anything away from SMU as I think it is a great school. Some people might like the Dallas vibe vs. Austin.

Villanova is obviously going to be NYC/Philly focused so keep that in mind. Sounds like you have some great schools on your radar. Good luck!

Call and ask them. In my experience the schools aren't trying to screw you over and force you to make a bird in the hand vs 2 in the bush decision and understand that you are weighing all of your options. I asked a school if I could push back the date they wanted a response by a month and they had no problem with it.

Just be polite and professional and ask if they mind pushing the date back. Once it gets closer to crunch time you are going to have to bite the bullet and put a deposit down.

Texas is a great program but they had a hiccup this year regarding admissions. Lot of people irritated.

Must be a poor LinkedIn scan as I know basically all of the Villanova placements from start to current and they range from every aspect of finance year in and year out.
