Networking in MBA
Hi All,
My current plan is to go to MBA in 2026. Since my undergraduate has no placement in IB or similar professions, I was wondering how I can next work to do “coffee chats”. I’m just all people on LinkedIn get messages everyday with people asking them to chat. However if I have no ties I feel the response rate will be low. Love to hear thoughts
reason to connect with you:
alma mater
languages
hobbies/interests
home region/culture
your personal friends/network
People connect for all sorts of reasons. They don't have to know you beforehand and in some cases people won't respond. Fact is, companies eventually have to hire new grads or staff and you need to believe that you are one of them (in any firm). If company X doesn't hire you, Y might. So connect with people, show your abilities/profile and ask for an internships or something.
Thanks for this. And I’m guessing I should wait till I get accepted somewhere to start reaching out
It would depend a little bit on the industry niche/area and the overall job market. It's never too early to build your network though, you will see that these efforts take a whole amount of time. If you have a certain school, region or employment sector in mind, start building a thought process to figure out how to do all of this.
Thank you. And sorry for all the questions. But like I get the point of networking and making connections, but is the point to maintain the connection and once you apply for jobs you let them know, or do you ask for references? I’m new to this if you couldn’t tell
