Non-Target | T4 Consulting Offer | Deferred MBA Dreams | Am I Cooked or Do I Cook?
Longtime lurker, first time poster... blah, blah, blah.
Ok... I go to a T50(could be T-25 depending on if you look at the undergrad B-school) University(state school), but a branch campus, so non-target/no-name essentially. We have a shitty career services center(main campus gets all the goodies). Studying Business Admin. with some specialized tracks that don't mean much with a minor in Data Analytics. GPA is a 3.65. Dean's List for most quarters, finalist at a startup-focused case comp. Top 10% of my class. But not much else in terms of awards or honors.
Two internships. R&D/Innovation Analyst at a large retail chain(off-cycle, sophomore year). Back office/non-client-facing role focused on ESG, philanthropy, and university partnerships, but this was a unique internship where I got a lot of exposure to what is essentially the Sr. Director+ folks, my direct report was an exec. as well. It's also a unique internship due to how long I've been there (just less than 2 yrs, started my Sophomore summer and will end around June when I graduate). For what it's worth, it's a more implementation-focused firm delivering a large non-FAANG company solutions as a subsidiary of a very large IT-based consulting company(T2). You could probably put 2+2 together on this and find out the company.
I've had some research and an on-campus job focusing on student success as well. (Prolly not relevant but figured I'd paint the whole picture.)
Serve on budgetary committees for my school, part of student gov(a senator, for what that's worth), and started the first ever student consulting group on our (branch)campus with 3 clients this year. Part of our annual hackathon planning committee as one of the lead execs.
Co-founder of a startup that fizzled out due to a lack of time to work on it, dev. Team having other priorities, etc... Honestly, not super committed to it atp, started from a class project but see value and do believe this could be a strong solution and would be a strong contender if I continued to build. Probably dedicate more time post-grad.
After I graduate, I'm most likely going to be a strategy analyst at a boutique consulting firm(T4). Feeling really good about the whole interview process, just need them to confirm.
MBB was the goal early career to mid-career(very much open to a lateral move if possible at all), the end goal is hopefully Operator(CEO/COO) at a PE portfolio company + be financially free(multimillionaire + generation wealth, I don't have a monetary goal to be honest I just dont wanna be broke and be able to buy a few houses/nice things without having to consider seriously consider my pockets). Looking at deferred M7 MBA, no GMAT yet, but not feeling super great about it, really taking it bc of parental pressure. Kellogg might be my best chance from what I've looked at.
I'd love to hear feedback, thoughts, advice, and even get flamed. I genuinely don't know where I stack up in life and my career opportunities. I know I'm not some Ivy League god with an MBB or BB IB offer on the path to prestige and fame, but I think I'm a hard worker who could make something happen with my life. Looking to see if there are any paths I should look to take, is pivoting to something high finance doable, and should I? Is there any world where I'm not absolutely cooked?
