Non Target to Target MSF|IB Concerns

I have recently, as of my spring semester of junior year, switched majors from Information Systems to Finance, with plans to pursue Investment Banking. Due to the nature of attending a non-target and being this late, I have decided to pursue an MSF at a better school, so I have another summer to get relevant internship experience, and better recruitment opportunities. However, I recently spoke with someone within the space, and they went on to say that Summer Analyst programs would not hire someone going into their MSF between undergraduate and the MSF, regardless of if you have already been accepted to the Masters school prior. He said the best 2 options would be to extend my graduation at my non-target to December of 2024,(currently on track for May 2024) so that I can still recruit for the Summer 2024 analyst position, and the other option would be graduating May 2024 and doing an 18month MSF program, so that I can complete a summer analyst position in Summer 2025, between the first two semesters of MSF and the third.
Is this statement true about banks not hiring summer analysts between an undergrad and an MSF, and if so, what are my best options to get from where I currently am and my goal of breaking into IB above?
I have a 3.75 GPA, looking to enter an MSF at Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, or Indiana primarily.

I graduated from one of the MSF programs listed and many people in my class had internships between undergrad and the masters program, so this definitely isn’t universal advice
