Non-target undergrad, does it help if I do MSF or MBA in a Target school?

Hello all,

Title pretty much self-explanatory but yeah. Went to a non-target for my undergrad and now I am recruiting full-time. I am reading WSO, I would say that there is a strong bias of non-target kids not being intellectually the same as target kids but in my case it is as simple as I came too late into the US to make correct choices on my undergrad and I was too busy working everyday after school to support my family on this change. I am thinking to do a MSF or MBA in a target school to help my cause and break that belief about target and non-target thing because I think is ridiculous. I have worked hard to build a life in another country, with a different language to have silly problems like that preventing me from following my passion. Thank you and waiting on your take.

It’s a pretty straightforward yes with regards to an MBA. Just consider any bank with an MBA associate program. They typically recruit directly from top business schools. Plenty of those candidates went to a non-target undergrad or are career switchers etc. It’s somewhat of a soft reset.

Thank you much appreciated. In terms of timeline, I am currently recruiting for full-time and I have had 1 year experience in M&A, if I don’t get a FT position for next May as I am graduating, should I jump into MSF or MBA right away?

Most people in my class had at least a few years experience and if I had to guess ~80% were 25-29 at the start of the program. There was one person in my class who went to MBA straight from undergrad and their best BB offer was to join as a senior analyst with opportunity for promotion in the first cycle. Not saying you’d have that same experience, but something to consider.
