Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about the finance club culture at Northwestern University:

  1. Club Recommendations:

    • Greek Life: Consider joining AKPsi or DSP.
    • Non-Greek Life: Look into Northwestern Capital Management (NCM) in ISBE and the Investment Management Group (IMG).
  2. Opportunities and Programs:

    • Chicago Field Studies (CFS): This program offers off-cycle internships with good opportunities, especially if you avoid the more competitive summer period.
  3. Placement and Networking:

    • Northwestern places well into Chicago banks, and networking is crucial. The effort you put into networking and leveraging your degree can significantly impact your success.
  4. Specialized Programs:

    • Programs like the Kellogg certificates or MMSS can have a positive effect on your recruitment prospects.
  5. General Advice:

    • The culture at Northwestern involves a mix of professional development and social networking. Engaging in clubs can help grow your professional network and provide a fun, supportive environment.

For more detailed insights, you might want to connect with current students or alumni who can share their personal experiences.

Culture has been great from my experience. Since NU isn't a target school for a lot of NY firms (i.e. these firms don't have a hard cap on how many NU students they take), everyone is willing to help each other out because we're not competing against each other for spots. For example, during interview cycles ppl are constantly circulating Hirevue and Superday Qs they were asked.

Keep in mind, you're only really guaranteed to place well if you end up in IMG and/or IBC (IMG takes ~30 people, IBC takes ~60, and all of the kids from IMG get into IBC) so it's not smart to base your decision to go here off of what the finance clubs are like.
