NYU CAS OR USC MARSHALL SOPH TRANSFER

So I just got both and sophomore year is where recruiting gets serious. Where should I go from a recruiting standpoint, is there a significant difference or is it just east vs west coast?

From a recruiting standpoint, the choice between NYU CAS and USC Marshall largely depends on your geographic and industry preferences. Here's the breakdown:

  1. NYU CAS:

    • NYU has a strong presence in NYC, which is the hub for finance and investment banking. Being in the city gives you proximity to major banks, larger recruiting classes, and more networking opportunities.
    • NYU is heavily focused on finance, and its location makes it ideal for those targeting East Coast roles, particularly in NYC high finance (BB IB, PE, etc.).
    • However, CAS (College of Arts and Science) is not as directly aligned with business as Stern, so you may need to work harder to stand out compared to Stern students.
  2. USC Marshall:

    • USC Marshall is a strong semi-target for West Coast recruiting, particularly in LA and SF. It has a dedicated business school, which can give you an edge in structured recruiting processes.
    • USC has a robust alumni network on the West Coast, and top performers at USC have landed roles at elite LA/SF groups like Moelis and CS LA, which offer great exits to PE.
    • If you're targeting West Coast roles or tech/finance hybrids (e.g., Silicon Valley), USC is a better fit.
  3. Key Considerations:

    • If you're set on NYC and East Coast finance, NYU CAS might be the better choice due to its location and access to larger recruiting pools.
    • If you're leaning towards the West Coast or want a more traditional college experience, USC Marshall offers a strong network and opportunities in LA/SF.
    • Both schools are semi-targets, so success will depend on your networking, GPA, and internships.

Ultimately, the decision comes down to where you see yourself working long-term (East vs. West Coast) and which environment aligns better with your goals. Both schools can get you where you want to go with effort and strategic networking.
