NYU + MBA PROGRAM 2023

Hey Guys, I am looking to apply to NYU's full time MBA program. I am an NYU Stern alum so I have the option to not take the GMAT exam. I graduated from Stern undergrad in 3.5 years with a 3.3 GPA. They allow anyone with a 3.2 or higher, who is an NYU alum, to get a waiver on the GMAT. It does not hurt your application to not take the gmat.

I wanted to ask, is it a given that NYU Stern undergrad alums will for sure get accepted into NYU Stern MBA programs if they apply?

Do you think I should take the GMAT if I am looking to get into IB?

Honestly, I dont remember any of the math on the GMAT, so Id prefer not to take it if i dont have to. Id have to study super super hard to get a decent score on it. But if I need it for banking, I might as well take it. Let me know what you guys think

Hey there! Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not a given that NYU Stern undergrad alums will for sure get accepted into NYU Stern MBA programs. Each application is evaluated on its own merits, and while being an alum might give you a familiarity with the school's culture and expectations, it doesn't guarantee admission.

As for the GMAT, it's not a strict requirement for breaking into Investment Banking (IB). However, it can be a useful tool to differentiate yourself, especially if you're coming from a non-target background. If you're confident that you can score well, it might be worth considering. But remember, it's just one piece of the puzzle. Networking, maintaining a good GPA, and gaining relevant experience are also crucial for landing a spot in IB.

If you're not keen on taking the GMAT and you don't have to, then focus on other areas where you can strengthen your profile. Remember, the road to IB is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep your eyes on the prize and don't forget to enjoy the journey!

I don't know if anyone here can tell you if you get auto admission for going to undergrad there, I've never heard of that. My first take with a lower GPA is that a GMAT gives you an opportunity to put a positive number in the mix. I was explicitly asked for my GMAT maybe once or twice across IB recruiting, and most have a spot for you to put it on the application.

At the end of the day, it's probably not required. But you gotta think about the overall picture. If you are the person who posted this exact question on reddit and therefore graduated in 2022, you won't have a lot of work experience. So they will see that, plus low GPA, plus no GMAT and a different impression starts to form. Just my two cents.
