NYU Stern worth 80k a year?

I got into Stern recently, but they gave no aid leaving my family and I to pay 80k a year. I have an interest in finance, but not quite sure what I want to do right now. First year would be financed mostly through loans because of COVID affecting my mom and dad’s businesses. the other option isRutgers for 15k a year. Thoughts?

Made a similar decision to you. Is there a noticeable adverse impact coming from Rutgers compared to NYU Stern in terms of lower exit opps, weaker alumni network, worse B-school placement?

Edit: Just saw that your incoming analyst so you haven't experienced it personally but I'll keep it up to get your or anyone else's opinion

I’m not at Rutgers, but a well known school in the tri state often compared to Rutgers. I’m a senior now, so can’t really speak to buy side placement. Would having Stern/Duke/Georgetown help? Absolutely but all hope is not lost because you’re not at a top target. As far as I know, a top performing analyst at even a half decent group can get MM/UMM/MF looks. Strong GPA & GMAT can lead to M7 mba, especially w. A good fund on the cv. And FYI target or non target, PE recruiting is still hard asf. You should do your best to control the factors that you can control, create opportunities for yourself and not stress over what you can’t control. Sorry, don’t have much anecdotal experience for you.

God damn school has gotten expensive in the last 10 years. Stern’s a great school, but if the difference is $260k... there’s a lot better use for that money. Also, there are definitely some kids who stand out at Rutgers and make it into a “high finance” job right out of Rutgers. It’ll be harder, but just imagine you’re getting paid $65k a year to work a little extra harder than you would have at Stern
