Oxford MFE profile evaluation
Hello there! I was wondering whether some of you could give me your honest opinion about my profile and whether I might have a shot at getting into Oxford’s MFE program.
School and GPA: I am about to graduate from a respectable Italian university (Not Bocconi but still considered top 10). My GPA is sitting at a solid 30.1/30. Excelled in virtually all math-focused courses (meaning I got a 31). Going to graduate 6 months late. Studied in a top 10 business school in Europe for my exchange. Got solid grades there too. Got myself 2 strong recommendation letters.
GMAT: Scored a 750 (Q49, V42)
Extracurriculars: I am the founder of the biggest finance and M&A club at my university. C2 in English, B1 in German. Worked in the family company for quite a bit (non-finance role). I lack a proper internship in M&A (currently my biggest weakness) which I hope I’ll get within the 5ish months prior to the first round of admissions. Recently started a profitable side hustle in RE.
I would really appreciate it if you could find the time to drop your opinions about my profiles in the comments. Thanks in advance.
You have a shot, your academics and GMAT are within the average. Could see it going either way, make sure to apply during the earlier rounds to maximize your chances.
Work experience isn't as much a focus of the program so don't worry too much, although whatever you can do to bolster your CV is obviously welcome.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot for the reply!
Yeah I’ll apply in the very first round. Any tips on what to improve?
Honestly just make sure your application is top notch, e.g. your personal statement is good, your recommenders will write good letters, and that is about it. Not like you can change GPA or GMAT or suddenly get an internship somewhere fancy in the meantime, at least not until round one deadline.
If you have time and have done better in GMAT mocks you can always try to improve that score (the program really cares about it), but honestly a 750 is good already obviously.
Will do sir! Thanks a lot.
Writing a good personal statement / motivation letter will definitely serve to help and having good recommendation letters will serve to help as well. Try to keep your CV basic as 1 page letter so it's super simple and easy to read. Good luck.
