Part time online vs traditional part time

Hello all,

I just finished junior year of undergrad and am currently interning at a large data vendor (ie. Reuters, Bloom, FactSet). Even though i initially wanted to end up in IB, I like this job, the work life balance is great, and the comp is good enough for me. I want to do a part time MBA, especially because this company will pay for most of it. I want to use to MBA to increase my salary potential and advance through my career faster, not necessarily change industries. This job requires a lot of travel and I am not much of a classroom learner and tend to prefer an online setting. However, I know that online MBAs get a bad rep. I am debating between Rutgers Business School traditional part time and doing online at a place like Villanova or Syracuse. Also, I know i am too young to do an MBA and i need work experience first, I am just starting to think about it because I want to take my GMAT before I graduate and want to start the part time mba asap since it will take years.

Any thoughts? Much appreciated.

 

Company is paying for the MBA? Definitely do it then. Take your GMAT and apply this year because part-time/online takes longer than 2 yrs to complete, especially if you are doing a job on the side. Will be a lot of work but doable if you are willing to give up social life.

Are you in a major city with schools around. If so do it there part time. If you are in NYC, NYU /Columbia offer part time MBA programs . If you are in LA, definitely do it at UCLA.

Online is generally cheaper and from what I heard the trend these days. Becoming more and more common and over time more top programs will offer it but as of now only two top programs offer online MBA that is as good as the real degree, UNC-CH and CMU. Even then, the programs are still in their infancy stage so you are essentially a beta-tester. If you don't get into those 2 programs I highly recommend you do not do online MBA.
