Post 9/11 GI Bill, NYC, and picking a school
Hello Everyone,
I'm currently a 23 year old veteran attending Pace University. I'm currently paying for school using my GI bill and have around 3 years until I obtain my undergraduate degree. I'm interested in getting into IB and after looking over the target school list, I've decided that I want to transfer. I'm originally from Texas which means I can use the Hazlewood act in order to pay for my MBA (as long as it's a public university in Tx) once I use up my GI bill. I guess the question I have is since I'm already in NYC should I stay at Pace or transfer to a different school. I was looking at either University of Chicago, Cornell, or University of Michigan. If I decided to go back to Texas it would either be UT-Austin or University of Houston.

Go for the Transfer. Honestly, if you can do it, take advantage of transferring and trying to get into IB if you are serious about IB. Likewise, the fact that you have the Hazlewood Act is definitely a good thing as UT Austin, which is public, has a good reputation, is a Top-20 MBA program and free tuition is free tuition. It's easier to get into IB from a better school but if you network, you can make it in from Pace with a bit of hard work.
So stick with one of the target schools for undergrad and go to UT-Austin for MBA? Looks like I'll start my application now
For the Undergrad, yes, I'd look at transferring to a better school. For your MBA, but if you want to use the Hazlewood Act, it's going to either be UT Austin or Texas A&M. Both are public universities the best in Texas. It's a bit early in terms of your MBA plan, but keep those two schools in the back of your head when you get closer to doing your MBA. I'm not going to send you in one direction or another for a program because you may want an to do your M7 school instead. If you can get into one and that means you won't have the Hazlewood Act to cover your costs of school. It's a consideration you need to make, but that's way down the road.
I don't know what caliber you think you'd be in... UChicago and those are very hard places for the most talent high school entrants. Pace vs. UChicago is like Chalk vs. Cheese.... so make sure you protect your downside bets and tell why you're qualified
Otherwise, look up Yellow Ribbon programs, they could save you money! also places like UTAustin are good pickups for undergrad - Big solid school, and you can be the top dog in that diluted school and face IB opps.
I did look up Yellow Ribbon programs (that's how I came up with UChicago and Michigan) and now realize how competitive those schools are. UTAustin is probably the more realistic choice and would be the easiest transfer/transition for me seeing as I'm from the area.
I still think that I have nothing to lose in applying to the other schools but a few dollars.
exactly. you got nothing to lose when your downside is protected. cast your net wider because you're nontraditional.
