make sure you don't fail.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

The thing is, I expect this out of WSO; the young ones today read LSO and think that is the life of being a banker. News flash, it is still a good job but we are not popping bottles and living the "good life" that is the mirage of your mastubatory galore. Prestige is a side thought to most of us and I speak for most of us who actually work in the business when I say this; we are probably happy to have gainful employment in the industry and don't care if you work for GS or PJ. I don't base my friends on how much money they bring in or who they work for, instead I (novel idea) hang out with people I enjoy. If you think this industry, and life for that matter, are about prestige and how much money you make; I suggest you sort through your moral inventory and get a grip.

Great insight Ray Finkle, I find it upsetting when people want to be in banking just because of the prestige rather that it being something they have interest in it.

You give me a gift? *BAM* Thank you note! You invite me somewhere? *POW* RSVP! You do me a favor? *WHAM* Favor returned! Do not test my politeness.

1man2nv; thanks for the response. I think we would all be lying if we said there wasn't a point when we were totally or partially encompassed in the prestige and money of this business. I just don't want kids thinking they will break in and that will set them up for life.

Yes in theory getting in the door is the hardest part but don't think it will get much easier when you're in.

the only thing you have to know about prestige, is that it's worldwide, wide, wide..

1man2nv and RayFinkle have it spot on. To you monkeys trying for banking or trading, if you are in it so you can hopefully get a leg up (or the legs up) on a girl at a bar and get laid it is the wrong industry for you. Those who have game have game, those that dont are just the guys standing in a circle at the bar in expensive suits looking miserable. The name on your badge matters so little it is astounding. In the end, moving up the ranks is all about networking and being a tolerable/humble person that people enjoy being around. The whole GS v. MS v. JPM prestige crap is so trifling it makes me almost embarrassed that i even consider reading it.

And OP, no one gives a fuck what you studied or where you went after your first job. Now follow HPMs advice and find the nearest window.
