Profile Review

Hi everyone,

Looking to gain some input on my potential choices for graduate studies.

I come from Latin America and have 5 years of relevant work experience in Finance. Specifically working on several Sales & Trading desk at a BB. I graduated as top 2% of my class and have a bit of academic experience abroad. No GMAT taken as of yet.

Unfortunately wages are quite low where I'm based so the possibility of a scholarship (about 50%) is a significant factor to consider upon applying to business schools.

I intend to relocate to Europe (UK included) and hence believe that a top program will help me land a job preferably on my current working field (Open to land AM/Structuring/HF/S&T/Corp Dev. roles).

In light of all of this, I believe that the MFIN from LBS is the most suitable program for me, as it is a strong post-experience Masters in Finance and I believe I have a shot at being admitted - Hopefully with chances of a scholarship as well.

What other Post-Exp. Finance Masters would be applicable to my career and relocations aspirations? I'm reluctant of pre/short experience Masters, as it appears that the job opportunities of them lead to 1st Year analyst programs, while I'm looking to start at an Associate level.

Thanks!

Hey there,

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like you're on the right track with considering the MFIN from LBS, especially given your work experience and aspirations to relocate to Europe. This program is indeed a strong post-experience Masters in Finance and could potentially help you land a job in your desired field.

However, you might also want to consider other programs such as the MSc Finance at Imperial Business School, MSc Finance at UCL, MPhil Finance at Cambridge, and MSc Finance at Warwick. These programs are also highly regarded and could provide you with the necessary skills and network to advance in your career.

Remember, it's not just about the program itself, but also about the opportunities for networking and recruitment that these schools provide. So, make sure to research each program thoroughly, considering factors like curriculum, faculty, alumni network, and career services.

As for scholarships, it's hard to say without specific information from the schools. However, many top programs do offer scholarships based on merit, so your academic achievements and work experience could potentially help you secure some financial aid.

Lastly, while you're correct that many graduates of pre-experience Masters programs end up in 1st Year analyst programs, this isn't always the case. With your work experience, you might be able to negotiate a higher starting position.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your applications!

Need the GMAT score really.

If you already have 5YOE, keep in mind this is when people do an MBA. So consider MBA too as it gives you a plethora of options.

LBS MBA >MFIN. INSEAD is also top MBA in Europe.

Does your BB have any chance of being able to do an office transfer? Either to USA, or to UK then you could do LBS MFIN part time?

Hi,

Thanks. Understand where you come from with regards to MBA, but I know I want to keep on working on the Financial Industry and with my background, I might be better off following a more "technical" Masters than an MBA.

My decision to pursue a masters or not is fully dependent on whether an internal transfer to a hub can happen. As of now I doubt it.
