PSU, IU, Clemson, UofSC

I'm currently a senior and am considering going down the IB road. All my life I have always wanted to go down south for school, but am well aware that schools like clemson and UofSC are non-targets. But I'm wondering if you can still at least land a mid banking job if you go down south? My other questions are for PSU and IU, what if you don't get into NLF and or the IB Workshop? Can you still land a semi decent job? Are there any schools that place well regardless of getting into their top club?-Also sorry for all the questions

I think OP might be referring to South Carolina and not Southern California although I had the first initial reaction.

Non-IBW kids break into banking from IU although it's definitely much harder.  UF and UGA will position you better for roles in the South relative to Clemson and South Carolina.

Yeah University of South Carolina recently rebranded itself to USC from UofSC (as dumb as that sounds)

I’m from the south and am paying 4x annually for what I would pay to be at Clemson rn to go to a top 10 school. IMO it’s very worth it because you can count on two hands out of thousands of in-state SC graduates who get MBB or a great IBD job while you would have to screw up to not get a top job at Duke, UVA, UNC, Vanderbilt, Emory, Wake etc. UGA, UF, and GT are cheaper options that will set you up for success if you work really hard. As someone who is seeing all their best boys have the time of their lives in-state, the chasm is very wide and if you value an elite job, you need one of the schools I mentioned, especially if you’re from a traditional background.

IB is not a thing at Clemson (No OCR, limited alum) had to basically do it on my own, lots of networking. Great for the big four tho.

Vanderbilt, UNC, UVA, UT (not really southern per se) are some of the better schools that will position you well for finance jobs.  Not easy to get into from out of state necessarily, not the cheapest either (esp Vandy).  Washington & Lee maybe fits the mold too.  University of Florida actually a decent school as well, though wouldn't really call that "southern"

current student at usc, id look into the Finance Scholars program. it punches way above it's weight in regards to placement but besides theres not much

If you wanna stay in the south, Duke, Emory and Vandy are your number ones. If you can't get in/too expensive, next would be UNC then your next bet would be Georgia Tech (great school and surprisingly decent ib placements). After that, UF, umiami and UGA aren't too bad although you're gonna have to grind ur ass off for anything MM+.

I made a similar post last year. USC (South Carolina) is much better than Clemson for IB, and has a much better business school. It’s a semi target for regional banks (Charlotte and Atlanta), mainly jefferies. The finance scholars program has been picking up steam lately, and has sent a decent amount of kids to Wall Street. If you’re going to go to Clemson or USC, USC is the better choice. Going to IB from there is definitely doable, just be sure to network and work hard for a high GPA.
