Roast my resume! Trying to break-in to rotational program or Big 4 or Boutique consulting post-MBA this December in US.

Hello,

I'm trying to get in to MBA rotational/development programs that are offered at various companies or possibly want to go into Big 4 or Boutique supply chain consulting firm but getting no interviews so far.

Most of my professional experiences are either co-founding and founding a small start up.

Please roast my resume on how to frame these bullet points, if I should make it as 2 pager. Where I should put more weights and bullets.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you need to know to refine your resume and increase your chances of breaking into MBA rotational programs or consulting:

  1. Keep It to One Page: Unless you're a Director or MD with extensive experience, your resume should be one page. Highlight the most relevant and impactful experiences succinctly.

  2. Structure and Order:

    • Work Experience First: Since you're post-MBA, your work experience should take precedence. Highlight your startup experience in a way that demonstrates transferable skills like leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking.
    • Education Next: Include your MBA and any relevant coursework or projects that align with rotational programs or consulting.
    • Skills/Certifications Last: Showcase any technical skills, certifications (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, PMP), or languages that are relevant to supply chain or consulting.
  3. Frame Your Startup Experience:

    • Focus on measurable achievements. For example, instead of saying "Co-founded a startup," say "Co-founded and scaled a tech startup, achieving 200% revenue growth in 12 months."
    • Highlight consulting-relevant skills: problem-solving, client management, financial planning, and operational improvements.
    • If applicable, mention partnerships, fundraising, or any strategic initiatives you led.
  4. Avoid Fluff:

    • Do not include a mission statement or objective. These are unnecessary and take up valuable space.
    • Use action verbs and quantify your impact wherever possible.
  5. Tailor for Consulting:

    • Emphasize analytical and strategic skills. For example, "Led a team to analyze market trends, resulting in a 15% increase in customer acquisition."
    • If you’ve done any consulting-like work (e.g., advising clients, solving business problems), make sure to highlight it.
  6. Networking:

    • If you're not getting interviews, it might not just be the resume. Leverage your MBA network, attend professional conferences, and volunteer at events like ROMBA or other diversity-focused conferences if applicable.
  7. Additional Tips:

    • If you’re applying to rotational programs, highlight adaptability and cross-functional collaboration.
    • For boutique consulting, emphasize niche expertise or unique experiences that set you apart.

If you’re still unsure, consider working with a professional resume coach or leveraging WSO’s resume review services. Good luck!
