Rotman (University of Toronto) vs. W.P. Carey (Arizona State University)?
Hi all,
I need your help! First, some context... I am from Chicago, IL and graduated from NYU, majoring in Psychology. I am very interested in pursuing the innovations field, love culture, exploring, the west coast lifestyle, etc.
My concern relates to the career search at Rotman; I'm receiving mixed views (though admittedly, the majority have been negative) on the career services offered. This is of particular concern to me considering my intention was to get a job in the U.S., though I am not entirely firm in this. BusinessWeek statistics state that 95% of students get a job in North America, and that 95% of those students stay in Canada. As you can tell from my undergrad school choice and my current place of residence, I love culture and the city, and Toronto is certainly attractive in this respect. In addition, the program's emphasis on innovation and integrative thinking is very appealing. However, taking into account those statistics and what I understand from career services, I am not sure whether Rotman is a total fit.
Arizona (W.P. Carey) is not only much less expensive, but also has a tight knit network to foster relationships and a service oriented mindset that seems to make the job process much easier. Though Arizona is in a warm climate (though my background would suggest otherwise, I cannot stress enough how much I love warm weather!), it also has nowhere near the city life, culture, diversity, and student body that Toronto has.

Both suck in their own rights. What does it mean to be interested in "pursuing the innovations field"? And if you love the West Coast life style, you won't find it in T.O., and not really in AZ either.
If you like city life and don't mind the winter, Rotman is your choice. You're right ASU Carey actually has a decent network. Also, Rotman will open up more in Canada if you want to work there. ASU has hotter girls.
The ROI on Rotman isn't very high. Average and median starting salaries are about 90K base and probably 100K all in. It's one of the best MBAs in Canada, but not even top 30 in the world (no Canadian MBA is). Not worth the two years of lost income and 100K tuition if you ask me.
This by no means suggests that you should take the other option by the way.
