Social scene at CBS?

So a big motivation for me to go to B School beyond career stuff is just to take a break and have a good time. I'm from the West Coast and want to live in NYC for fun and consider myself pretty good at making friends in new cities, but curious to see are people at CBS mostly hardos or chill? I really didn't like the Booth crowd, HBS seemed better, so curious to see where this falls. I am already in IB and looking to get out to F500 or MBB

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about the social scene at Columbia Business School (CBS):

  • Community Feeling: Despite being in NYC, CBS has a strong community feeling, especially in Morningside Heights, which feels like a university town filled with Columbia students.
  • Social Life: The social life at CBS is vibrant. Many students fully embrace business school life, often telling their old friends they are "dead for two years" to immerse themselves in the experience.
  • Weekly Events: There are regular social events, such as rugby every Wednesday, which contribute to a lively social scene.
  • Student Demographics: While some local students may spend more time with their old friends, they are a small fraction of the CBS population. Most students are eager to make new connections and enjoy the social aspects of the program.

In summary, CBS offers a balanced social environment where you can have a good time and make new friends, aligning well with your desire to take a break and enjoy living in NYC.
