To those on top MIF/MiM programs: how many of your colleagues came from non-traditional backgrounds?
I have mapped some of the LBS/LSE/Oxford MFE/HEC/Bocconi/etc. alumni on LinkedIn and it seems that a lot of them come from the top university in their country.
I'm kind of worried about this because that's not my case. Ceteris paribus, how much does it matter? I'm from a medium-sized state school in Latin America.
Do you want to know about those coming from non-traditional educational backgrounds or non-top tier schools? I studied at one of the UK unis mentioned above and as far as backgrounds go we had people from chemistry, biochemistry, history, war studies and politics. As far as non-top tier unis went, I had some colleagues that came from 20-30 ranked UK uni's, 2nd level Dutch unis and small German unis. Not sure about how coming from a non-top uni outside of EU will look but you certainly get these candidates. Just make sure your grades and CV are top notch
Non-top tier schools.
I come from a non-top tier school, a top-10 Brazilian but that within business/IB/fin is mostly unknown.
Also, about the internships, what do you see between the alumni? All or most of them with BB/boutique internships? Or that's an expection? How many internships had them on average?
A lot of them had previous internships but barely any were BB/EB ones. Most were at smaller shops or general work experience in industry. They probably had 1 internship on average.
Do you think an internship as a Financial Planner/Investment Advisor would put me in a lower position than other candidates, as it's not finance?
The company/bank is really big, one of the biggest here, but still... not IB.
