Too Late to target Fall 2017 MBA Round 1 Admissions?
Hi All,
As a little background I'm a PE associate at a well know firm in the growth/buyout space (i.e. - JMI/Spectrum/TA). I'm contemplating applying to Fall 2017 MBA by which time I will be 5 years out of undergrad where each year has been investing (was hired our of undergrad in an investment role and am currently in year 2 of 3 associate years).
I just really decided today I want to try and do the Fall 2017 MBA. I'm targeting HBS/Wharton/Columbia. I have not taken the GMAT or prepped at all.
Question: Can I still make a September 2016 Round 1 deadline? Or should I focus on a December 2016 Round 2 application time frame? Any pros / cons?
Would really appreciate your thoughts. Cost is not a concern - I'm happy hiring a consultant and private GMAT tutor.
Thanks, Bambino
Beginning the application process myself, so speaking partially from experience, partially from second-hand information.
I am targeting R1 class of 2019 and just finished the GMAT last week. It was about 3 months from when I began studying to when I finished. I could have condensed my studying to 2 months, but that is dependent on your schedule and target score. A Booth alum colleague of mine estimated about 2 months for applications.
Most R1 deadlines appear to be clustered around late September, which gives you 4-5 months to pull it all together.
I have also heard to focus on 2-3 applications at once, so I very well could do 2 in R1 and 2 in R2. I'll probably look at admit rates in each round to select a couple of schools to delay.
There's no way to know until you get around taking the GMAT. I'd say target round 1 and if you don't get your target GMAT by say August or so then just plan on Round 2 so you don't put too much pressure on yourself during your GMAT retakes. We're still four months out from the application deadlines.
Definitely not. Spend 6-10 weeks, depending on your starting point, preparing for the GMAT, if you get the score you want that gives you 6-10 weeks for essays and such, more than enough time.
I'm applying to HBS/Wharton in Round 1, so my advice is to wait until Round 2 to apply.
