UChicago Booth vs Northwestern Kellogg for Tech IB and PM Recruiting
Which MBA program is a better fit for me given my career goals: UChicago Booth or Northwestern Kellogg?
I am currently a tech product manager working at a non-FAANG company. My goal for the MBA is to find an internship in technology investment banking the first year of my MBA. If I find out that investment banking is not the best fit for me, I would like the opportunity to pursue a full-time role in the digital strategy departments of the top MBB consulting firms or a product management position at a FAANG level technology company or a high growth technology startup.
I have heard Booth is the stronger school for IB, does the same apply for recruiting into top tech IB groups (Qatalyst, Goldman TMT, etc)? On the flip side, I heard Northwestern has excellent MBB and solid product placement, but would it be an uphill battle to recruit for tech IB opportunities? I would value it if some alums can speak about this based on their experiences or observations of their cohort's outcomes.
For your career goals, both UChicago Booth and Northwestern Kellogg offer distinct advantages, but the choice depends on your priorities and the weight you place on each career path.

Key Considerations for Your Goals
Conclusion
If tech IB is your top priority, UChicago Booth is the better fit due to its strong finance focus and placement into top IB groups. However, if you anticipate a higher likelihood of pivoting to consulting or product management, Northwestern Kellogg offers a more balanced path with strong outcomes in those areas.
