UNC v UT-Austin (undergrad)

I am in-state for UT. Assume that I don't get into BHP. UNC actually has solid FA for OOS so UNC wouldn't be exorbitantly more expensive. Is UNC worth leaving Austin and paying extra money? UNC is generally perceived as more prestigious. I'm mostly interested in consulting and maybe IB, but I'm still a HS senior so wtf do I know lol.

UNC is ranked higher (overall), but I wouldn't call them more prestigious. They are both great state schools; your real question is where you want to live after school. Also saw that their business school ranking is tied at #7, assuming you want to study business (and care about rankings).

Odds are, UT is going to be cheaper, even with financial assistance. Wild card would be if UNC places better into IB since they are closer to the east coast, but I'm not in that industry and can't speak to that. Check the employment reports and see where students are placing.

UT 100%.

Extremely well placement into consulting within the Big 4. Each of the Big 4 probably take 5-10 for the Advisory practice from UT. Accenture single handedly probably hires 20-30 analysts from UT for MC/TC. MBB each probably take 2 full time UT BBA undergrads a year. All of them are double/triple majors within Finance/BHP/Plan II/CS. OW takes probably 5 a year. Very strong placement into litigation/economic consulting for ex. BRG, Analysis Group, FTI Consulting, Navigant each probably take 2-5 per year from UT.

Energy IB placement is very strong as well. All of the BBs and many EBs, MM IBs probably take 1-5 summers from UT every year.

I went to UT and was non-BHP. Just make sure to have high GPA and start relevant internships early - I had a different finance internship each semester. This is the only way to differentiate yourself as everyone joins the same clubs. I interviewed with every single investment bank and consulting firm. Saw an equal amount of people from UT and UNC when I started my job in banking.
