University of Texas at Austin vs Drexel University vs University of California, Santa Cruz

Hi,

I am a student in the United Kingdom and have a study abroad year as part of my degree. I am really interested in pursuing a career in IB but also love my social life so want to go to a fun university (think bars and clubbing, cycling, hiking, going to waterfalls, etc.) during my year abroad. I have never been to any of these places so I know absolutely nothing. Please could somebody advise what the uni repuatations are perceived to be like and what the cities are like. Also I have heard people say Texas is a little backward haha what's up with that? Thank you!

If you chose Santa Cruz or UT expect relatively warm weather during your time there. Drexel will give you a bit of every season. Expect snow, rain, and shine. As far as prestigious goes UT is the most prestigious from the 3. Drexel or UT would give you access to great nightlife as both are in a relatively large city. It might take some adjusting to live in Texas, however Austin is a very young city and lowkey a very big college town. With Drexel, and Philadelphia you get a more living in an American city type experience.

Texas at Austin is a great college and college town with sports, outdoor activities, night life, etc... but Texas is huge. To get to another town it is San Antonio 1 hour, Houston 3 hours, and Dallas 4 hours by car.  If your only there for a semester it will be a great experience.  The one thing Drexel has in its favor is Philly which is larger city with more history/things to do besides partying....and a train ride away from NYC (1.5 hours) , DC (2 hours), Boston (5 hours) and other cities for exploring.

If you want to have fun, college sports, study at a great school and have incredible weather Austin is a good choice. If you want to travel around and see other historic cities, and have cold/wet weather for probably half the semester then Drexel.

Don't know anything about Santa Cruz.
