USC Marshall or Umich Ross for IB

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a high school senior and have been admitted to both USC Marshall and UMich Ross. I’m most likely interested in pursuing investment banking and eventually moving to New York City, although I’m flexible. Working in NYC has been a dream of mine for a long time.

In terms of cost, both schools are roughly the same for me, so finances aren’t a major concern.

I really like California, and the LA weather is amazing, but I’m a bit worried that if I don’t go to Ross, I might not end up with the same career opportunities in the future.

USC is close to LA, which opens up the possibility of doing internships during the school year—I’ve heard a lot of people do off-cycle internships there. That’s something I’m interested in. That said, I don’t mind the college-town vibe of Ann Arbor either. However, I know it’s more secluded and might offer fewer in-semester internship opportunities.

UMich Ross is also higher ranked and has a stronger IB pipeline from what I’ve read.

What do you all think?

Two of my best friends go to both of the schools you mentioned, if you want to do IB in NYC, Ross no doubt. If you want to stay on the west coast, USC is a great target school on the west coast.

For sure, however my mindset is this. I rly liked USC the social scene and weather, I don’t really like the cold. I feel like if both schools get me to the same places I obviously want to be in Cali for the weather, if the benefit that Ross gives for IB is marginal I’d rather choose USC. However if Ross is considerably better for IB I would choose Ross. I also feel like having a off cycle internship at LA at a finance related firm will help a lot of future job careers both in LA and NYC

Ann arbor has a great social scene also, imo the same level as USC. (i've visited both and been to the frats / football game tailgates etc). The only thing that's a big difference is the weather. Make sure to consider that, but if ur end goal is NYC IB, i would personally go ross.

Also, ross is such a cool business school, visited there a few weeks ago.

close one tbh. which do you vibe with more. i think the competition for IB will be more at Ross. Marshall will have more people interested in media, entertainment, entrepreneurship, real estate

For the location, weather, and strength in IB NYC recruiting ... USC Marshall.... who the fook wants to live in Michigan for 4 years. Worst case you work in LA for 2-3 years, then get an MBA and you're in NYC.
