Vandy MSF Waitlist

Was put on the waitlist for Vandy MSF waitlist. Was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the process specifically the length. Would it  still be worth it to pursue and wait or should i just focus on MBA's.

The waitlist process for Vanderbilt's MSF program can vary in length, depending on the number of applicants, the program's capacity, and how many admitted students accept their offers. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and advice:

  1. Waitlist Timeline: The waitlist process can stretch from a few weeks to several months. Vanderbilt typically reviews the waitlist as spots open up, so patience is key. However, staying proactive is crucial.

  2. Proactive Steps:

    • Reach Out: Contact the admissions office to express your continued interest in the program. Reiterate why Vanderbilt is your top choice and how you align with their program's goals.
    • Update Your Profile: If you've achieved any new accomplishments, certifications, or relevant work experience since applying, share these updates with the admissions team.
    • Leverage Networking: Engage with current students, alumni, or admissions ambassadors. Building connections can sometimes help your case.
  3. Worth Waiting or Focus on MBAs?:

    • If your goal is to break into Investment Banking (IB) or a similar field, the Vanderbilt MSF program is highly regarded, with strong placement rates in IB, especially in UMM, BB, and boutique firms. For example, one WSO thread highlighted that Vanderbilt's MSF program had 15 students place in UMM/BB and over 30 in IB from a class of 60.
    • However, if you're considering MBAs, remember that top-tier MBA programs often require several years of work experience. If you're early in your career, the MSF might be a faster route to your goals.
  4. Alternative Options:

    • If you're also considering Villanova's MSF program, it could be a viable alternative. While Vanderbilt has slightly better placement stats, Villanova offers a strong alumni network and is often more cost-effective.

In summary, if Vanderbilt MSF aligns with your career goals and you're willing to wait, it could be worth pursuing. However, keep exploring other options like MBAs or alternative MSF programs to ensure you have a solid backup plan.
