It's already an L, since it seems like you're gonna get a shitty grade or take the W, so it's just damage mitigation. Figure out what you think you're gonna get, and what the impact on GPA is versus not. If GPA is above 3.7 regardless it shouldn't be a huge deal, but if this one class is gonna like drop your GPA from 3.8 down to 3.7 then that's another conversation. Furthermore, if you're gonna get a D or F, then prob better to take the W, because schools look at your whole transcript and they'll see the shitty grade.

You may also have a chance to explain a W, more than you would a bad grade that might get passed over.

All in all, if you're gonna fail this shit with like a D or F, take the W. If you're gonna get a B, eat it. If it's a C, then judge the relative impact on GPA.

With your GPA, just take the B. Different story if it were a C or worse, but a B looks better than a W (which could imply you withdrew to avoid a grade worse than a B). Also different story if the B would put you below a "GPA cutoff," which it doesn't seem like it will. Think you are overweighting the marginal impact a slightly higher GPA will have on your success with PE recruiting. Went BB -> a MF with a 3.6
