"W" in relevant course senior year, b-school effect?

I know this topic has been discussed a few times but I'm still a tad worried. I'm finance and accounting major coming from a non-target and expect to graduate with a 3.3. However, i fucked up big time a few days ago on a financial statement analysis exam due to stress from recruiting. The good news is I don't need to worry about a job but the bad news is I need to take a W on this class or my GPA will go lower than it already is.

Assuming I pull a 700+ GMAT, a good 3-4 years of IB experience at a reputable bank/ buyside experience, am I still good for a magic 7 b-school? (Prolly not H/S/W, but the other 4).

Cheers,

Why not explain the situation to the teacher and ask to have a retest or extra credit assignment (although make sure it's enough extra credit to be worth it). Tell him how you really love his class, but that you couldn't study properly because of interviews, but now that you have an offer, you can devote more time to the class" This has the added benefit of getting to know the teacher better and getting on his good side, provided you don't fuck up any more tests, he may end up bumping your grade up a letter grade just because he likes you (happens all the time).

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

I spoke to him already and he asked me to wait until the grade actually comes out and then decide whether or not to drop. I am pretty sure he does not give extra-credit or retakes, but he did offer to send me my grade through email. I asked him to let me know if it was still possible for me to pull my grade back up to a B, but we will see. Assuming my grade is unsalvageable, I would love your opinion on how my b-school prospects are affected if I do have to drop it. Thanks again!

My understanding is that one or two W's on your transcript can be easily overcome. 3+ is when it came become an issue that needs to be addressed. Re-take the class (even if you don't, you'll still be okay), get a few years of solid work experience, and then W will become a non-issue.

If it were ever to come up in a b-school interview, just explain like you've done here and follow it up with what you learned from the situation (managing stress, managing your time, whatever) and you'll be fine.

Focus on your work experience and nail the GMAT and everything else will fall in place.
