Warwick MScFin vs Imperial MSc Finance and accounting

Hey everyone,

I received an offer for Warwick’s MSc Finance with a scholarship a few months back, and today I got an offer from Imperial for their MSc Finance & Accounting (MSc Finance was my first choice).

I’m coming from a reputable Irish university, and my goal post-masters is to break into Sales & Trading (S&T).

Which program would better position me for S&T roles?

Thanks!

Targeted by who? It’s definitely not as good as imperial in terms of rep, but I can say first-hand this matters way less than you may perceive it to. Everyone on my course who ticked the other boxes like having a bit of experience etc either managed to get into a pretty solid role (up to top tier M&A), or had actively looked for something like corporate banking in the first place. Today my cohort are across M&A, PE, private credit, corporate banking, restructuring, valuations, infrastructure.. could go on

If anything, I’d frame it as Warwick MFin probably just hits the cut-off point where it does seem to open a lot of doors. There may be less people with the background / inclination to do that, though.

Now I wouldn’t recommend doing a MFin course at WBS, imperial, LSE if the hope is that in isolation is going to land a job. It’s expensive, and it was actually a pretty tough year. Warwick in particular is also boring as shit to be at.

Put differently, I would be doubtful that somebody that landed a great role out of LSE/Imperial couldn’t do the same out of WBS. Anyone struggling to get an interview out of Warwick MFin is most likely falling short in another area.

Of course if money isn’t an issue, definitely go to LSE/Imperial as the network will certainly be stronger later in your career. Had it not been for the 25-50% scholarship, my course mates (myself included) would have done the same.

Imperial is way stronger. How much is the scholarship for? If it’s a full scholarship then maybe I’d consider Warwick just to save 50k
