WashU Reputation
How is WashU viewed in IB recruiting? I want to be a banker in NY and I've recently received an offer from WashU for football. Can someone give me a perspective on how they are viewed and how easy/hard it would be to break in compared to other schools? Any response is appreciated. Thanks
Hey congrats. I personally think it’s a good school but just not sure how many Washu people I’ve seen in nyc finance. Could be that they find better job opportunities elsewhere or in different fields. If you have another school you are considering going to then you might get more commentary otherwise if it’s like washu or nothing, then that might be a different question. Good luck and best wishes either way :)
Thanks!
Welcome. Good luck again :)
Wall Street loves student athletes. I wouldn’t worry too much about it being a target/non-target tbh. If you are proactive on networking, getting good grades and interview prep, you will put yourself in a good position.
Washu is a great school !
Not in banking --
Have a TON of friends who finished the IB process for NY. They did quite well. Check this thread for more (probably likely outdated) details on offers and stuff: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/school/washuwustl
It's also hard to say whether or not WashU is better easier or hard to break into NY IB if we have nothing to compare to (e.g., the pathway to IB via ivies is gonna be better than washu)
PM if you have more detailed questions
Did you choose to not go into banking? We’re all of your friends in Olin? How do you think the alumni network compares to other (high academic) schools? I have a good chance at getting an offer from Williams college and I know that there alumni network is strong and the majority of people that want to be a banker are bankers.
Chose to not do banking pretty early on in college -- lifestyle and work didn't really appeal to me but I respect anybody going into the industry.
Majority of friends are in Olin but not all. Probably a function of being primary Olin major + some of the clubs I'm in
Alumni network is super subjective tbh, especially when not comparing directly with certain schools. Against top top tier schools like Harvard and Penn, WashU alumni network isn't as large. I would say that the WashU alumni network for banking (and consulting which is what I'm going into) was really strong because it's small. That said, for the kids at WashU who are smart and hardworking, getting a top banking offer in NY is very doable.
I don't know much about Williams, so I can't really comment on it.
