Which laptop should I buy for undergrad business school?
Right now, I am using a 2014 MacBook Pro, but I'm thinking I might be better off moving over to windows next year as my college's business curriculum is very Microsoft Office oriented. Preliminarily, I'm thinking of getting a Microsoft Surface, but I would love to hear which laptops you guys would recommend.
Dell xp are solid, Asus makes solid laptops, and hp as well. Just make sure it has SSD and a decent cpu. Surfaces tend to be overpriced for the hardware.
Lots of good laptops out there. Not sure what your budget is, but I recommend going to Newegg's site and plugging in some parameters for what you'd like. You can get a decent laptop today amazingly for under $400, but if you want something more refined or quicker for tasks other than microsoft office you can certainly spend more.
You're probably also going to use it to watch movies in your dorm room so a 15" screen would be a good idea. SSD is an option as well, but if you go that route I recommend 256gb, some come with 128, but if you ever install any games or a ton of music/videos 256gb will be a better idea. Ram wise I'd shoot for 8gb, plenty for pretty much everything aside from hardcore gaming.
Can help more with specs if you want to give more details on what you'll be doing on it aside from excel.
I used a mac throughout college, and had to do most of my excel and powerpoint work on school computers. Wasn't too bad but if I had to choose again I would probably get a nice Dell. If you're fine with having to use the school computers and like Macbooks go for it, but I would recommend a windows laptop (whatever one you like for the quality and price)
I'd say 95% of students, including myself, used Macs in college. The few times I needed to use a Windows computer, I would just use one of the computers at the library which wasn't too big of an inconvenience since I was there studying all the time anyways. Our school also gave us the option to remote PC to any of the school computers so I could've even used a Windows from home via my Mac.
