Yale or Stanford for undergrad IB/PE

I was lucky enough to be accepted into both schools, planning to do Econ. I was wondering what school would be optimal for IB/PE recruiting in NYC and overall. Is it still manageable to recruit to buyside/IB positions in NYC from Stanford? I heard Stanford has been losing its alumni presence in NYC and therefore considered more of a semi-target by BB

You are evidently a lot smarter than me, but Stanford is the best / most highly regarded school on earth and is no way shape or form a semi-target. Stanford kids place at will in IB & buyside whether that be PE/HF/Long-only AM. You do not mention whether you have been to New Haven or not, but it sucks. Palo Alto is not miles better, but the weather more than makes up for it.

Hi! Like OP, I was also accepted to Yale (ChemE & Econ) and Stanford (Energy Eng & Econ). I'm leaning towards Stanford myself, but I've been hearing that in recent years Stanford students have appeared "underprepared" for their interviews and generally may have garnered a bad rep in the space. I've also heard anecdotally that only a few students each year even land top BB offers, and that true finance grinders were a small, ostracized minority at the school.

On the other hand, per an email from Yale I received literally yesterday, 33% of Yale's c/o 2025 went into finance/consulting with GS/MS/JPM and MBB as the top employers of Yale grads outside of the university itself. So, have you heard anything about this, or changed your opinion on Stanford's caliber since you posted this comment? For reference, I'm interested in the IB=>buyside pathway, ideally in a group that works closely with energy technology and infrastructure. Thank you!
