Zoom vs Phone Business School Interview!
Question: I have been applying to business schools. A school wants to schedule an interview with me. Which is more advantageous, Zoom or phone?
I am thinking Zoom because it is more personal, a name with a face, and they will remember what I look like for the admissions decision. If so, what do I wear?
But, is phone more convenient for them? I do not want to impose on them. I feel I would be better a phone, but I think the face with name helps more.

I would do Zoom. Yes, they’ll get to put a name to your face, but you’ll also be able to show them you can keep composure in an interview (eye contact, posture, gestures, not reading off a piece of paper like you could on phone, etc.)
I wore suit and tie for mine but honestly a nice plain dress shirt would be fine IMO. Maybe HBS/CBS would be more formal?
Also i’d take control of your background. Make sure lighting is excellent, maybe have a picture or college item off to the side in the frame, triple check your audio quality, etc. You want to do your best to impress and can’t do that on the phone!

if you want to keep notes in front of you or takes notes during the call, my suggestion might be to do phone. most of these screens don’t really require a lot of notes so defer to zoom. it also forces you both to be fully present and not checking other things.
the format shouldn’t matter in the long run. I would spend your time speaking with current students / alumni and developing an authentic reason why you want to attend the school. speaking with students or people in the admin gives you certainly more credibility. that’s how to stand out.
