Don’t give up, You’ve got this

By the numbers since June 2023 Applications: 350+ Emails sent: 175 LinkedIn messages sent: 196 Calls / coffee chats held: 79 Interviews attended: 11

For some background I graduated from a non-target this past November in Chicago. Upon graduation I had 14-months of M&A experience and saw multiple deals from engagement to close. The internship / analyst position was supposed to convert into full time upon graduation, but deal flow didn’t allow for them to bring me on FT.

To say the least FT recruiting has been extremely frustrating, rejections have been discouraging, and abundance of free time + stress has been overwhelming. But, having got myself to where I am now, I’m confident that I’ll be okay and I’ll find a good role.

This is a message to everyone who is in a similar spot, you are not alone. We will find good opportunities as the market recovers. Just have to keep recruiting and leveraging our networks.

This is post is partially to boost my own confidence, but also to remind anyone who is struggling, to keep your head up.

Cheers fellas.

Keep at it man

Was in a very similar spot as you several times, both when recruiting for FT and for lateral hiring. Take 30 minutes after every conversation or interview to see areas where you can improve your interview answers, prior work experience and transferable skills. Be honest with yourself. If you can improve even 1% after every interview, over the course of numerous conversations, you should end up becoming a great candidate.
