Advice for a Graduate
Hello my fellow monkeys,
I've been looking for a FO job now for the last 4/5 months. I finished my internship in S&T at a BB in August, was not offered a FT place and I graduated in July of this year.
Of course, the climate right now isn't helping anyone with jobs anywhere, so I have been widening my search and looking for any job in Finance, Consulting, and the area of my degree, Engineering.
My passion remains in Trading however, and I don't want to give up on it! I've had interviews with a number of BBs, who get me in for a number of interviews, tell me they like me and then at the end of the process, right before the job offer just turn me away and say that they aren't hiring right now. It's killing me! ( I have checked with two to see if they were just fobbing me off, and it turns out that in those two cases they were being sincere).
I always appreciate the advice, and the knowledge a lot of the experienced monkeys drop on here. So if anyone has any advice on the best routes to get into Trading other than the traditional graduate scheme, I would be incredibly grateful.
Just as a background, I'm in the EU, graduate intakes are usually in September (recruiting tends to be wrapped up by February/March at the latest), so it's nearing last orders for this year's intake of Sep 2012.
Thanks in advance,
Blue
Have you tried the euro based prop shops? Optiver/IMC/Flow Traders?
Really tough environment right now, until the economy gets legs it's going to be hard to land a FO job as a graduate who wasn't offered a FT position after his internship.
