Advice on a Portfolio Analyst (Equity Trader) job postig

Hello to all,

My background is CA (CPA equivalent here in Canada) with 4 years public accounting exp and I'm also a CFA level 2 candidate. I want to break in to Finance this year and have been doing some job search. This was posted in Canada Public Pension and I was wondering what are the upside (growth and exit opportunities) in accepting this type of role.

Role Summary: Portfolio Analyst (Equity Trader) within the Global Capital Markets (GCM) group in Public Market Investments based in Toronto. GCM in its role as execution provider for the fund is responsible for all transactions in public market securities, supporting internal active management programs, as well as the implementation and management of the fund’s passive portfolio.

Equity Trading: *Assist senior traders manage passive equity index trading flows around cash deployments, index rebalances, and asset mix rebalances. *Interact directly with Portfolio Managers on the Quantitative and Fundamental management teams to ensure trade lists are executed efficiently according while incorporating short-term alpha opportunities. *Stay current with global market microstructure developments.

Index portfolio management: *Reconcile index portfolio holdings on a daily basis *Generate reports regarding the performance and risk of the index portfolios *Contribute to the group’s efficient management of the reference portfolio Corporate Actions

*Monitor corporate actions via CApTAIN and keeps Corporate Action Binder updated on a daily basis *Provide analysis to support corporate actions and makes recommendation to Authorized Traders, including finding value-added opportunities *Ensure corporate action elections are responded to by two Authorized Traders before the Critical Date *Monitor and ensure that corporate action entitlements received are appropriate

Other Duties as assigned : *Assists team members by completing assigned duties accurately and on a timely basis. *Proactively solicits feedback, assistance and additional work (if time permits) from team members. *Demonstrates intuition and sound judgment related to the decision making process as it applies to the assigned duties. *Demonstrates strong work ethics and team orientation in relation to the performance of specific duties and self-assigned tasks. *Continually seeks to add value to our portfolio management and trading process by developing a thorough understanding of our portfolio management and trading process

After reading the summary, it looks like an interesting position but the job details looks like back-office support. I'm worried that there wont be opportunity to learn the core finance skills - financial statement analysis, valuation, financial modeling and that growth would be limited.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
